I know, and the lack of blood flow to certain body parts bothered me then

me too. after a while that dawned on me; if the heart doesn't pump, the the blood doesn't flow. if the blood doesn't flow it can't get "there" to make it hard.
it's one of those "supend your disbelief" things i guess
