Winter Ahoy!
Jul. 3rd, 2009 08:37 pmFinally a proper winter’s day.
It was cold with the occasional wind gust and showers on and off throughout the entire day. We have of course already had the winter solstice, so when I got out of work early it was still light.
I love the area I live in. Walking home reminded me of when I was growing up in
The smell of fresh wood fires that clung in the damp air reminded me of Toongabbie.
Since writing the above I have taken full advantage of Google maps. I will always love that old house. Unfortunately Mums beautiful garden seems to be no more but it does look like it has been painted in the last few years and all the big old trees are still there.
I remember being angry when my parents took out the huge plum tree. It allowed better access to the big shed/garage they put out the back. I didn’t see the point. I can’t remember them ever putting the cars in it. That tree brought us Arthur who is still alive and living with my Aunt and Uncle 16yrs later.
The tree destruction, I think in part, must have come about due to the genetic love to ‘hack away at things’ as Dad says. Mum is still happily hacking away with her collection of chainsaws, brush cutters and hedge trimmers. Although Dad really can’t say much as he is the one that supplies her with the hardware and the reasons for him not to use them himself.
I wonder if my old bedroom is still apricot and I hope they haven’t blocked up the fireplace.
